Overview of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

The Kailash Parbat is a mountain that lies in the Ngari Prefecture of Tibet Autonomous Region of China. Lying 100 km away from the tri-conjunction of Nepal, India, and China, the peak stands at a height of 6,714 meters. Not only is it a remarkably beautiful destination, but it is also a significant natural and historical landform. We at Nebira Holidays have a special package for a tour around this mountain. The Kailash tour via Kyirong overland tour is what we have in our offer. This tour is popular as the Kailash Parikrama by Hindu pilgrims.

This tour takes you around various locations of Nepal and Tibet borders. We will kick off our trip from Kathmandu, and we will end it with a return to Kathmandu. During most days, our travel will be by vehicle by road. However, for three days, we will trek around the Kailash mountain or do the Kailash Parikrama.

First up, we arrive in Kathmandu and gather ourselves in the group. We will visit the Pashupatinath temple, which is significant for Mahadev devotees. Then we will leave Kathmandu and head to our Kailash tour. Our first stop for the tour will be at Syabrubenshi. Then we head farther towards Kyirong County, passing through the Nepal-Tibet border in Rasuwagadhi. We’ll take a day off to relax and acclimatize in Kyirong.

The next day we will head towards Dongba. After that, we will reach the foothills of mount Kailash at Lake Mansarovar. The lake is a sacred water body. Our itinerary separates a day to worship the lake and for its Parikrama. Meaning we will have a tour around the lake. After we are done with our worship and tour, we will head to Darchen.

From Darchen we will head to Yam Dwar. Yam Dwar will be the first point of the main “Kailash Parikrama”. From Yam Dwar, we will start our trekking and head towards Deraphuk. From Deraphuk, we trek to the Dolma Pass and head to Zutulphuk. From Zutulphuk, we head back to Darchen. Now we will trace our steps back to Nepal, heading from Darchen to Dongba and to Kyriong. Then we will finally cross the Nepal-Tibet border via Raswagadhi and head back to Kathmandu.

The trip will be jam-packed with various sightseeing, worship, trekking, etc. Stick with us to know more about this trip.

FAQs

How long will the Kailash Parikrama via Kyirong last?

We will take 14 days total to finish our tour. It includes the day of arrival in Kathmandu and returns along with the day of departure.

You will spend around three days walking around the Kailash mountain for Parikrama. It is a walk of around 52 kilometers of distance.

Our highest part of the journey will be at the top of Dolma La pass. It lies at an altitude of 5610 meters.

The best time for it would be during mid-spring to early summer and mid-autumn. Not only is it suitable climate-wise, but also the lake will have adequate levels and temperatures of water for rituals.

For most of the trip, we will be driving around and have our team members as your guides. But if you wish to get porters for your trek, you can hire Tibetan porters. However, there is also an option of leaving unnecessary luggage at Darchen.

It is a popular belief that the mountain is home to sacred gods in Hinduism. Many scriptures claim the place to be the gateway to heaven. Buddhism also believes the place to be the center of the cosmos. Such a sacred place might be ruined of its purity if it is mounted. Hence, no one dares climb it.

Old folks might be able to easily perform the treks in the Kailash Parikrama if they are healthy. But if the physical activity level and stamina are low, the trek becomes very difficult. Going on jog walks, and short uphill walks to boost stamina could help them get there. However, if they are not physically strong enough, we advise against it.

Best time to do the Muktinath Darshan Yatra by Flight

People consider autumn and spring the best months for long-duration treks in Nepal. The same applies to treks to Muktinath as well. The Muktinath Darshan Yatra by flight is also best during autumn and spring. These months do not bring unstable weather, rainfall, snowfall, or storms. Most flights run smoothly and on schedule during autumn and spring. These times of the year also make the road from Jomsom to Muktinath habitable. Heavy rainfall and snowfall might make the already rugged roads worse. Hence, spring and autumn are the best times for the trip’s overall optimum comfort, whether during flight or road travel.

Reasons to do the Muktinath Darshan Yatra by Flight

1. Visit Mustang without making arduous treks.

People consider autumn and spring the best months for long-duratia

Long-distance hikes are required to see the Muktinath temple or the Mustang region. To get to Mustang, you must pass through a number of isolated high-altitude hamlets. You must complete the Annapurna circuit trek to get to Muktinath on foot. Various iterations of the Annapurna circuit trip involve crossing the Thorang La pass to get to Muktinath.

Such hikes are risky and difficult. You need to prepare a lot of trekking equipment and paperwork for it. Planning the right time, guides, and lodging near the trails is also crucial. Such preparations are not necessary for a brief trip by air, though. When you take the Muktinath Darshan Yatra by flight, you don’t have to use all of your energy on such tasks.

Additionally, a plane flight resolves any health problems brought on by high-altitude traveling. When you fly, your chances of getting altitude sickness are drastically lowered. Due to the fact that you won’t have to perform any physical labor, you won’t suffer any injuries either. An aircraft journey to Muktinath is highly suitable from this perspective as well.

2. Doable for everyone

It is not suitable for everyone to travel to Muktinath by conventional means. Not everyone can travel by road for long days or on a trek to Muktinath. Especially for the elderly and those with disabilities visiting remote places like Muktinath is a hassle. This problem is resolved by the Muktinath Darshan Yatra by flight.

Furthermore, if you plan a family trip along with your trip, it can be challenging to go on long road trips or treks. So, a Muktinath trip primarily by flight is particularly practical for a family vacation. This is a fantastic opportunity if you haven’t been to Muktinath because of physical restrictions.

3. Get to know the religious and cultural significance of the place.

In both the Hindu and Buddhist communities, Muktinath is revered.

According to the Sri Vaishnava school of Hinduism, Muktinath is the 108th Divya Desam out of 196. The term “divine realm” or “Divya Desam” refers to a sacred place for Hindus. The only Divya Desam in existence outside of India is Muktinath. It also belongs to one of Nepal’s Char Dhams.

Muktinath Temple is also known as “Mukti Kshetra” by some. It means “liberation arena.” Thus, people think going to the temple will give them moksha, or liberation. In addition to this revered concept, the temple has a past. According to Sri Vaishnava literature, the temple’s former name was Thiru Saligramam. The Gandaki river is considered the source of the Saligram Shila, a statue of Vishnu situated in the location.

Buddhists from the area refer to Muktinath as Chuming Gyasta, Tibetan for “Hundred Waters.” The Tibetan school of Buddhism values Muktinath highly. They view the statue as a manifestation of “Avalokitevara.” This exemplifies the kindness of all Buddhas.

Muktinath hence is a notable location that has had such an impact on Buddhists and Hindus. We highly recommend you put visiting a location with such religious significance on your to-do list.

4. Muktinath Darshan’s journey would be shorter.

It takes at least 7 to 10 days to get from outside of Nepal to Mustang and back. You can, however, complete your trip to Muktinath in just six days thanks to this tour. To save time, consider a tour by flight to visit Muktinath. This will be ideal for you if you’re searching for a quick religious gateway.

5. Picturesque landscapes traveling through Kagbeni

The by-road travel from Jomsom to Muktinath allows you to experience beautiful natural landscapes. The roads are a little rugged at first but get smoother after we reach Kagbeni. The journey takes us through places with beautiful Himalayan vistas. The climate of this region is quite beautiful as well. A short drive through such landscapes would be very serene and beautiful.
